Breast Implant Removal

Definition - What does Breast Implant Removal mean?

Breast implant removal refers to the cosmetic procedure where implants are taken out of the body. This operation involves removing old scar tissue that surrounds the implant and then removing the implant itself. Typically, the implant is taken out of the same incision site as the original breast augmentation. There are a variety of reasons why a person may undergo breast implant removal, including capsular contracture, wrinkling, deflation, shifting, rupture, or simply unhappiness with the size of the implant.

TheConsultation explains Breast Implant Removal

Breast implant removal is often done in conjunction with another cosmetic procedure such as breast augmentation or a breast lift. Typically, if a person is unhappy with the appearance of the implant, they will undergo another breast augmentation procedure following removal. The patient may select a larger implant or a different texture or placement option. If the patient does not want a new implant following removal then it is likely that a breast lift will be selected to repair sagging skin where the implant was once positioned.
