Female to Male Metoidioplasty (FTM Metoidioplasty)

Definition - What does Female to Male Metoidioplasty (FTM Metoidioplasty) mean?

Female to male metoidioplasty (FTM Metoidioplasty) is a plastic surgery procedure in which the patient undergoes testosterone hormone replacement therapy to enlarge the clitoris and then reposition it to replicate a micropenis. This procedure is ideal for patients who do not wish to undergo a phalloplasty procedure and prefer a more "natural" approach to changing their sex organs. In some instances, a scrotum is created by using tissue from other parts of the vagina and then placing testicle implants inside.

TheConsultation explains Female to Male Metoidioplasty (FTM Metoidioplasty)

For many patients, during the time of the female to male metoidioplasty, the fallopian tubes, ovaries and uterus are removed simultaneously. Keep in mind that the size of the clitoris after enlargement will vary from patient to patient and cannot be determined prior to enlargement. Patients sometimes opt for female to male metoidioplasty to see if this is a viable solution before moving forward with other procedure options. Techniques and options will be discussed with the surgeon.
