Definition - What does Velashape mean?

VelaShape is a non-invasive body contouring treatment, used as a cellulite reduction treatment for the areas of the thighs, stomach, buttocks, arms , and neck. The treatment is carried out with the help of a medical device that uses a combination of suction, radio frequency energy, and infrared light.

Although it is an effective stand-alone anti-cellulite treatment,VelaShape is often performed in conjunction with invasive body-contouring procedures such as the tummy tuck or liposuction, as a way of perfecting the overall results and “cleaning up” after the bigger surgeries.

TheConsultation explains Velashape

VelaShape is not a weight loss treatment, but rather a body contouring treatment – this means that the body is toned and the cellulite is removed from certain areas that are difficult to influence through exercise, such as the neck (under the chin), inner top arm, thighs, buttock, and flank areas.

While some people do report the loss of a couple of pounds after several treatments, the goal of the treatment is purely aesthetic and cellulite- related. The FDA approved VelaShape device is a small hand piece with mechanical rollers which puts pressure on the skin of the target area on the body.

The rollers massage and smooth the skin while the device directs infra-red radio frequencies into the skin, causing the fat cells to melt. The infra-red radio frequencies warm up the underlying tissue, and patients report feeling a warm sensation as their skin heats up. The treatment is non-invasive, painless, and safe, with the patients feeling as if they were getting a hot massage focused on a specific area of the body.
