Definition - What does Zerona mean?

Zerona is a low-level laser therapy method, approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA), that is used as a liposuction and body contouring aid. It is a quick, painless, non-invasive cosmetic therapy with no downtime, which can be performed in the physician’s office. It reduces the fat without destroying the fat cells and the clinical results are visible within few weeks. However, as a liposuction aid, it's a contouring rather than a slimming method, which targets the local fat that is, otherwise, persistent to exercise or diet.

TheConsultation explains Zerona

Zerona liquidizes the adipose tissue by creating pores in the membrane of the fat cells, resulting in the leakage of their contents into the space between the cells. From there, fat naturally ends up in the blood circulation through the lymph system and it's metabolized to the liver. However, some experts believe that fat may be redistributed to the body or used to "repair" porous fat cells, so the results of this method aren't considered to be permanent. Usually, 6-12 treatments every second day for a couple of weeks are needed to achieve the desired results. The disadvantages of this procedure may be the poor response that a small number of patients experience, and the considerable cost.
