Definition - What does Ectropion mean?

Ectropion eyelids refer to the condition in which eyelids turn outward. The result of an outward return eyelid is that it creates an unusual appearance and exposes the eye to irritation. Typically, older individuals suffer from this condition and it usually impacts only the lower lid.

Ectropion eyelids can be treated. The treatment plan is selected based on the reasons for and severity of the condition. For example, fi the ectropion eyelid occurs due to aging, then a surgeon may suggest shortening and tightening the lower lid. The surgery is completed as an outpatient procedure and patients will have to cover their eye for 24 hours following the surgery.

Additionally, a cream must be applied to the eye for about one week.
